So recently I caught up on watching Brothers and Sisters via youtube. God bless the inventor of youtube and the poster of the videos. I was able to catch up on most of the happenings with the walker clan via the video series Brothers and Sisters - Kevin and Scotty story.
I liked how when Jason Lewis character resurfaced, Kevin and Scotty initially resisted his offer and were able to discuss it after Sara interrupted them. It showed their solidarity as a monogamous couple. As a result of this belief in their monogamy, I was saddened when in the episode that aired a little over two weeks ago,, Scotty revealed that he had an affair a few months prior. This saddened me as Scotty always seemed like the rock on their relationship. I didn't particularly like how the writers made this a past event, as it took away from some of the pain associated with the infidelity and made it easy for them to make it a two episode repair job. As a Marriage and Family Therapist in training, I know that affairs are one of the most difficult things for couples to overcome. It is also likely that the family of the person who was cheated on would not come to the aid of the person who cheated. That being said, I do want to applaud the writers for showing that affairs are not just one sighted. They showed that Kevin had been neglecting Scotty and put his own self-hatred and sadness before his relationship. Thus Scotty felt abandoned and moved toward someone who could give him a connection on his special day. Oh, and I sort of wish just on a purely sexual note, we could have seen the affair in action, that seen could have been hot but also very emotionally painful for viewers.
